April showers?:
It would appear that the momentum I had thought was built up, actually stalled for multiple reasons. One reason being the close of the hockey season and now the start of the post-season playoffs. As an avid San Jose Sharks fan, I was enjoying their amazing run through March and to the Western Division title and have been stoked about their playoff run this year. Time I'd spend writing reviews is now spent watching games or reading up on games which is good for the hockey lover in me, but bad for the side of me that has been wanting to write reviews on several CD's I've been listening to.
I have high hopes to bring about April showers in the form of multiple reviews at one time. On my hit list of artists to review are Belladonnakillz, Keef Baker, Wired Brain and Anhedonia to name a few. The thoughts and feelings for the release are all floating around in my mind, and craving to be put into writing. I just have to "do it!" now. Here's to hoping I can follow through!

Marching orders:
I've got momentum going, and rather then lose it and trying to gain it back I am forging ahead to keep this site going as we start off March 2008. A couple of new in depth reviews are on the Reviews page, along with several quick little ones for 5 other albums I've recently listened to. I'll hopefully be able to put together a review for the latest Rorschach Garden album The Toy Factory this month also. I was fishing for something new, and came across their music, and was immediately drawn in by the upbeat, bubbly style of electro they do.

The machine lives on....
It's got lots of cobwebs within, but I'd say things are restarting fairly well. Some of the areas
are going to take some major coaxing (the Links page for example), but my
main goals are to update the Collections and Reviews pages
first and foremost. To kick start that I've added two new reviews, as well as a few new 'quick' reviews.
More are to follow of course.
It feels good to be back!

Wow, is it really 2008, and am I nearly 31 years old? Time sure does fly! I'll be doing updating as time permits, but don't be surprised if the updates are sporadic and at times small in nature.
Happy 2008 all!

The mess I call "Enter The Machine" and other joys!
What a lovely mess this site is. Wouldn't it be nice to have it
cleaned? I think it'd be nice, but I've got to find a simpler way
to update the individual pages. Specifically the reviews
page, which happens to list a few new "rated" releases and some
other minor changes. It was bad enough before when I just couldn't
find the time to type up a review, but now it's just a pain to update
quick enough. Time to learn more web design tricks-of-the-trade
which can speed up the process. Maybe even find a better way to
list the music on the collection page.
The latest wonder of a CD to make my collection was a surprise for
me. It feels like it's been awhile since I went out on a limb and
bought something I knew little to nothing about. Most times the
purchase is "ok", but here and there something comes along which
amazes me and gets stuck in my CD players. The CD that recently
did that was Beta's "Reflections in Darkness". BLC
Productions has put out other discs I've enjoyed (Agonoize &
the Interbreeding V/A releases to name a couple) so I figured they
probably had something in Beta which was worth a listen.
Beta's music does a bit of what Hocico does so well
in making music which is danceable, but has a layer of 'darkness'
in it's sound. The difference with Beta and Hocico
is the lack of vocals, in their place are well placed (and not over-used)
voice samples; and some well calculated beats and synthesizer effects
distinguishing Ian Velasquez's work as his own. BLC Productions
of course delivers another well designed CD cover and graphical
layout within further enhancing the release. AND (as if the
above wasn't enough for me) the remixes provided by other artists
keeps the same atmosphere created by Ian and mesh it with their
style of sound to provide exciting alternatives to already great
tracks.
Thank you to everyone who makes this music for our enjoyment! -->

"I
am not Keef Baker", but I love his music.
Added a few more quick reviews to the reviews
page. Also changed the rating system up a little bit for my
1 to 5 rating scale for a release. I almost never buy something
these days that is horrible. Maybe I've just gotten better at listening
to what my heart truly loves, or I've become fairly lax in what
I find to be decent. Whatever the case, the new rating system should
better reflect a releases impact on me now. It's much harder to
get a "5 out of 5" now. I've got to be pretty moved by a release
for it to get that rating.
Did a few changes with my About page also.
Went and re-read it to find some of the wording to be outdated.
I was going to add in there that I am pretty focused on the type
of music I buy and review. I noticed a whole lot of future-pop doesn't
make it's way into my collection. Most of the music I like, either
has a rougher edge to it or is dance oriented (or both!). An exception
does come into the picture every once in awhile though. I bought
my first Helium
Vola release not too long ago and I like the mix of classic
instrument sounds with electronics in their sound. It's very mood
oriented though, which means it doesn't get as much play time as
other items do. I am pleased to have it a part of my collection
nonetheless.
I shall return for more -->

It's no
mirage, that's the skull ov a pussy being blasted away!
No, I have not decided to get crude with my commentary for the hell
of it, I have just been enjoying the sounds of Proyecto
Mirage and Placid today (Placid's debut CD
being titled: "Skull ov a Pussy"). Proyecto Mirage
has come along musically just the way I like my music at times.
Loud, energetic, danceable and some crazy chaotic noise to top it
off. They can even pull off a slower bpm track with style, which
suits me just fine. Just got their latest release "Gas
Alarm!" which I have high hopes for considering how their
sound has been evolving the last couple years. I'll be sure to note
on the reviews page my thoughts when
I do.
Speaking of reviews, I've gotten a few more in the section. No,
they aren't the longer, detailed reviews rather more of the quickly
rated ones. I've actually been keeping very busy as of lately so
I am surprised I find any time to get updates here. I found out
just last month that I am going to be a father! This is of course
huge news which will impact my life in ways I can only imagine.
I am excited none-the-less at my future with not only a newborn
child but one of life's true marvels, my dearly loved Lauren!

Mmmm,
the taste of chaos!!!:
Don't you just love when life goes crazy on you and throws a ton
stress packed situations in your face? Well that's happened to
me and I am doing what I can to cope. Leaving out the items which
have nothing to do with this site, there are still several things
pissing me off.
During an update last week I noticed I had "somehow" managed
to erase a huge chunk of "What's New" updates. Several concert
mentionings and other updates I thought were important are now
simply gone. Good thing I had a backup...... yeah, right. Needless
to say I am backing stuff up now so this crap doesn't happen to
come around and piss me off again.
The good news is that I am feeling that I "have to get something
new on the site" feeling again so I am aiming to do so. One
new item is on the seemingly dead reviews
page. While I haven't done any in-depth reviews of stuff lately,
I just added a new quick and easy review section to that page.
New stuff I receive I'll be rating on a fairly simple level, but
it's still somewhat of a start in regards to what's coming across
as "hot" and what is simply "not". The idea is to get that cycling
through quickly as I am always listening to new stuff, and archiving
the simple ratings at the least for possible in-depth review later.
We'll see if that can get me going with more updates, more
often!
Besides that I am keeping busy with work, my beautiful lady (I
love you Lauren!!!) and my latest game of interest: City
of Heroes. Been playing CoH a little bit before it came out
as a Beta tester and have stuck with it since. Not sure if anyone
else plays, but I can be found in game under either my DarksLiyht
or HavNoMercy aliases. There is a DarksLiyht. alias
I have which is almost the same as my first character, but note
the "period" added to the name's end to differentiate it. Not
that anyone cares though, but heck I like the characters =)

Brittle,
cracking surfaces being crushed continuously:
Well I got my hands on the Iszoloscope disc set "Au
Seuil du Néant / le Dénominateur Commun" and it deserves to
be mentioned first and foremost on this entry. I had heard this
release was more "noisy" and also "rhythmic" compared to other
Iszoloscope discs which leaned more towards ambient and sparse
soundscapes. This disc takes those developed skills with ambient
soundscapes from past releases and implants layers of loud, throbbing
noise on top. Not that the noise is chaos though, it's all weaved
together to form a rhythmic noise lovers (i.e. Me) dream come
true. Calm interludes, sometimes smooth and delicate intros to
songs all lead to the same (yet also different) speaker smashing
orgy of reined rhythmic noise. This all on the first disc too!
There is a whole 2nd disc full of remixes I have yet to hear.
It feels great to get my money's worth out of a purchase so I
am quite pleased with this one.
Went to the city this last week on July 15, 2004 to see several
of Alfa-Matrix's artists perform live. To see this show's commentary

In need of more sleep,
but I had to tell you.....:
If you have the chance to see Dismantled live on their
latest tour you'd better be taking that opportunity. I've enjoyed
all of the concerts I've been to this year, but Dismantled
so far is going to walk away with the most interesting live performance
yet. The 4 piece set of Gary Zon, Jimie K., Chris DeMarcus and Adrian
White have turned the electronic wonder of Dismantled's music
into an amazing show of force with live drums, bass and "keytar".
The emotion, passion and depth of this music I already found moving
on disc, reached further into my soul when brought to life in front
of me. I'll be back with more details when I can focus on giving
the proper testimonial this live show deserves.
Thank you Gary and crew for making your way to California's Bay
Area!
