Domination Tour
Manufactura, Christ Analogue and Sister Machine Gun
06.16.04

Forget the bomb, the SMG packs quite a punch:

The Domination Tour show in SF this last Wednesday 06.16.04 was amazing. I think this is going to become a trend in regards to live shows. I love my music collection and listening to music in my everyday life, but after a live show I could not help but have a new found respect and/or admiration for artists. The same holds true with the Manufactura, Christ Analogue and SMG live shows.

Karloz (Manufactura) took center stage first, and started us off with "24 Sleeping Pills + 11 Shots of 151% Proof" which is one of my favorites off of the new disc Precognitive Dissonance. Loud, pounding and very engaging when blasted at you from multiple angles this was to be the beginning of an enjoyable listening experience. Karloz kept himself busy throughout his whole set turning dials, pounding away on drum pads and bending sounds to have the desired effect of blasting his audience away. There were songs from his past release Regression such as the dance favorite "Killing You", but a couple of the songs I did not recognize. Considering those songs kicked ass I've now made it my mission to collect every type of release that contains any new Manufactura tracks. Hopefully I can find those songs on another release or maybe a future release. While I would have loved to see the place go crazy dancing/thrashing about to the music, the audience seemed to at least appreciate his music and applauded gratefully whenever there was an opportunity. I am looking forward to hearing more from Manufactura in the future as I have yet to be letdown by any of his songs. As my last update stated check out: the Manufactura homepage for more details.

Next up was the mystery act for me Christ Analogue. I did not know what CA was going to sound like really besides the choice songs I had heard off of their website. So on stage were Wade Alin on vocals, a guitarist and not one but two drummers! Long story short, the show was impressive. Wade is so into his music which is infectious to say the least. The guitarist (sorry, I don't know his name) pulled off an interesting although short semi-solo at one point which I didn't expect. Then there was Jason and Charlie banging away energetically on the drums enhancing the programmed beats. A couple of times the two of them got to carry a song away on solos which were impressive to me, but I love drums and bass (yes, this applies to the genre also). Even without having a back-catalogue of CA material I'd go see them again to be a witness to Wade's passion for his music. For more details please see: Christ Analogue's website.

To top off the adventures for the night, Chris Randall and crew took to the stage to give us a roller coaster ride through Sister Machine Gun's 10+ year history of music. SMG actually leaves me nearly speechless after seeing their show. Chris was quite composed and his many years of doing shows live was evident in his laid back but effective approach to pulling the audience into the show. Mr. Randall wasn't the only one looking like they knew how to rock an audience up on stage either. Mr. Levi and Miguel were dressed up to impress in black suits, and the two of them were well into the groove of the music. The set jumped to life with the latest single "To Hell With You" and 12 or 13 songs later we were ending the evening with the classic "Sins of the Flesh". The real thrill to that was having both Wade and Karloz take the stage beside Chris to assist (as Chris said) with the chorus portion. Whether or not Chris needed the assistance, bringing together all three masterminds behind Manufactura, Christ Analogue and SMG for the final song of the night couldn't have been a better closure. The Domination Tour truly will be a classic considering all of the hardwork the three groups put in on this country wide tour. Thank you for the show guys!
