Here we have another work of art from Raoul Rotation, similar to both "1920.00" and "Serious Killer." The diverse musical types used here contain a well balanced mix of noise, electro, drum and bass and even some hints at calm melodic moments. Upon first listening to this album, I wasn't impressed. The sounds tended to become repetitive really quick, and details seemed buried under layers of the repetitive noise. Placing the disc aside, and coming back to it with a pair of headphones has changed my initial opinion though.
"Intronisation" is a long playing track (8:20) which is very minimal in sound, with low volume static behind a hypnotizing ambient drone. This song brings no hint of the higher speed bpm, and noise soon to follow. "Groupieshock" starts off with a foot tapping drum and bass beat, squeals and screeches of noise mix into this beat and the repeated vocals of "groupishock!" take us into the heart of this disc. This track reminded me of Cybernetic:Fuckheadz slightly, just with controlled aggression. The noise wasn't really "in your face." Well done. "Silence" slows things down after the 2nd and 3rd songs, and showcases the use of samples well. Listen closely, and you can hear the sample of an opera singer matching the tone of the synth keys.
One of the enjoyable aspects of this CD, like the "Serious Killer" release are the use of vocals and samples in an interesting presentation. Usually the lines are short, simple and repeated, but they compliment the beats well and as far as I can tell are not samples which are used on a hundred other CDs. Sometimes shouted, other times simply spoken the vocals further enhance the mood of the music.
There is something to comment on in every song, with so many genres used. My initial thoughts that "Groupieshock" was a letdown after the spectacular "Serious Killer" CD, has proven to be wrong. I can't say this CD goes beyond "Serious Killer," but rather continues where it left off adding in refinements to the sound. When played at higher volumes, on a stereo system the "noise" aspect becomes very prominent; slightly drowning out the details behind and also shows the repetitiveness more so. With that in the forefront though, it can certainly grab your body and inspire it to 'attempt' dancing to it's beat.
